Awesome Math

Many people believe that the Lord is something or someone that they can add to themselves. That belief can lead them astray. It can give them the notion that they are the center of things. It can give them the notion that God will revolve around them and cater to them. They don*t realize that God is the all important one and we are simply His helpful accessories or His unhelpful enemies. We need to be added unto Him.

Acts 5:11-14: And great fear came upon all the church, and upon as many as heard these things. And by the hands of the apostles were many signs and wonders wrought among the people; (and they were all with one accord in Solomon*s porch. And of the rest durst no man join himself to them: but the people magnified them. And believers were the more added to the Lord, multitudes both of men and women.)

Acts 11:20-24: And some of them were men of Cyprus and Cyrene, which, when they were come to Antioch, spake unto the Grecians, preaching the Lord Jesus. And the hand of the Lord was with them: and a great number believed, and turned unto the Lord. Then tidings of these things came unto the ears of the church which was in Jerusalem: and they sent forth Barnabas, that he should go as far as Antioch. Who, when he came, and had seen the grace of God, was glad, and exhorted them all, that with purpose of heart they would cleave unto the Lord. For he was a good man, and full of the Holy Ghost and of faith: and much people was added unto the Lord.

Acts 2:41: Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls.

Acts 2:46-47: And they, continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, did eat their meat with gladness and singleness of heart, Praising God, and having favour with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved.

When we trust the Lord we are added to something bigger than ourselves. When we become born again we are added unto the Lord. We are added to the church. We are added to a holy priesthood. We are added to the body of Christ. We are added to the household of God.

We are also subtracted from something. We are subtracted from the losing side and added to the victorious side. Our sin is subtracted from us. Spiritual death is subtracted from us.

Spiritual life is added to us. Acceptability to God is added to us.

John 17:2: As thou hast given him power over all flesh, that he should give eternal life to as many as thou hast given him.

Ephesians 1:6 To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted in the beloved.

2 Peter 1:2: Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord,

When we trust the Lord, He adds to us not only everything spiritual that we need but also every temporal (earthly) need is met.

Matthew 6:33: But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

Philippians 4:19: But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.

I love God*s awesome kind of math.

Colossians 1:18: And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence.

We do not get to choose what place we are added into the body of Christ. That would be like the proverbial tail wagging the dog. We are not a big fish in a small pond. We are more like a tiny fish in an ocean. God chooses the place for us and the things that we will do in that place.

Ephesians 2:10: For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.

The thing that keeps many people away from Christ and that makes many Christians unfruitful is the fact that they want to be their own boss. They want to be preeminent. Are we willing to occupy the place God has chosen for us? If God wants to put us somewhere He has glorious reasons for us to be there. If He wants us there we need to be there.
