Benefits Of Church Attendance 6

Jude 1:21: Keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life.

Romans 8:38-39: For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, 39 Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Notice that the passage says nor any other creature. Nothing can keep us from the love of God except ourselves and our sin. Many go to greater lengths to avoid the love of God than to seek it, find it and keep themselves in it.

Isaiah 59:2: But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear.

Unbelievers and Christians alike who stay away from church isolate themselves from much of the love of God. They also isolate themselves from much of the Word of God, most of the people of God and most of the joy of the Lord. They are spiritually homeless. They remind me of the many homeless people that we see in our city and state. All they get are a few crumbs of the love of God, the Word of God and the joy of the Lord. Christians would be better off to lock themselves out of their own homes than to lock themselves away from the Word of God, the joy of the Lord and the love of God. Christians will not get enough of the word of God, the joy of the Lord or the love of God from the other believers who stay outside of churches. They will not have the best examples of how to love and will not learn as well how to love.

When I moved to the state where I now live it took about six months to find the church the Lord wanted me to be a part of. I was looking for the most Biblical church I could find. In addition to looking for the most Biblical church I could find, I was looking for the church where the joy of the Lord and love of God were most abundant. Those things go together. Some of the love of God comes to us directly from Him, but a large and vital part of it comes to us through other believers. Isolated from any part of the love of God is an unhappy place to keep yourself.

John 13:35: By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.

Staying away from church is not loving the Christians in it. It is a lousy testimony. It does not bring glory to Jesus who is the builder and head of the church. It does not show the world that you are His disciples. If you cannot sense the love of God in a greater way in a Biblical church than out of it, there is some unconfessed sin interfering with it.

Another great benefit of church membership is that a believer will have a place to obey the command to be baptized. Baptism is commanded. We are not saved by obeying that or any command but believers are more blessed when they obey the Lord. Being baptized is not drudgery. It is a joy. It is a public testimony of having received Christ. It is a physical picture of a spiritual event. It is a picture of being dead with Christ and risen to new life.

Acts 2:38: Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
