The Bible Often Every Day

1 Peter 2:2: As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby:

Babies have small stomachs and yet they normally double their weight within just a few months of their birth. Before birth their mother*s body does an unceasing job of feeding them through the umbilical cord. They go from an ounce or so in nine months to 6 or 7 pounds or more. Rapid growth is normal for them. In order to grow rapidly they must take in enormous amounts of nourishment all day long.

As believers it would be profitable for us to take in the nourishment of the Bible multiple times each day. During most of my life I ate three times a day. Sometimes I would have snacks and treats as well. As I get older it seems to be better for my health if I eat smaller portions oftener than three times a day. When I first got saved I was reading my Bible once a day every day. I thought God must be really pleased with me. I had a repetitive job that I could do while listening to Christian radio and the Bible with earphones. Without my planning it, I was hearing the Bible taught several times a day and enjoying it. God was feeding me the sincere milk of the word multiple times every day. He put me in that job and He gave me a desire for the Bible. I was confined to the job and I was confined to the Bible. Now that I don*t have that job it is up to me to make time often every day for His Word. God gave the people of Israel enough manna to nourish them all day every day. Are we getting enough of the Bible every day to be well-fed spiritually?

Job 23:12b: . . . I have esteemed the words of his mouth more than my necessary food.

Give us this day our daily bread. How about Give us this day our daily spiritual nourishment. We don*t necessarily need to have a Bible in our hands, we can meditate upon it.

Acts 6:1-4: And in those days, when the number of the disciples was multiplied, there arose a murmuring of the Grecians against the Hebrews, because their widows were neglected in the daily ministration. 2 Then the twelve called the multitude of the disciples unto them, and said, It is not reason that we should leave the word of God, and serve tables. 3 Wherefore, brethren, look ye out among you seven men of honest report, full of the Holy Ghost and wisdom, whom we may appoint over this business. 4 But we will give ourselves continually to prayer, and to the ministry of the word.

Serving and physical work are important but the Bible is more important. Try reading it and meditating on it more often. I would be surprised if you didn*t like the result.
