Blind Hearts

There are several occasions in the Bible when Jesus healed men*s physical blindness. But it is infinitely more important that He healed their spiritual blindness, the blindness of their hearts. Receiving Jesus is a spiritual eye-opener. It is receiving spiritual sight and light. Living the Christian life is walking in spiritual light. Have you received Jesus and has He given you spiritual sight, hearing and understanding? Or do you still have a blind and unhearing heart.

Ephesians 4:17: This I say therefore, and testify in the Lord, that ye henceforth walk not as other Gentiles walk, in the vanity of their mind, 18 Having the understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God through the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart:

2 Corinthians 4:3: But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost: 4 In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.

Mark 4:9: And he said unto them, He that hath ears to hear, let him hear. 10 And when he was alone, they that were about him with the twelve asked of him the parable. 11 And he said unto them, Unto you it is given to know the mystery of the kingdom of God: but unto them that are without, all these things are done in parables: 12 That seeing they may see, and not perceive; and hearing they may hear, and not understand; lest at any time they should be converted, and their sins should be forgiven them.

John 1:4: In him was life; and the life was the light of men.

John 9:5: As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.

1 John 1:7: But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.

Psalms 119:105: Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.

When we receive Jesus, He gives us eyes to see, ears to hear and hearts to understand what the Bible teaches. He enables us to make use of the light provided in the Bible. For a Christian, neglecting the Bible is like closing your eyes, wearing spiritual ear-plugs and turning off the spiritual light. It will keep your heart in the dark.

Sadly, there are multitudes of unbelievers who reject Jesus and never receive sight or light. And there are multitudes of Christians who stumble around in darkness because they refuse to study the Bible or have it taught to them. They avoid the churches where the Bible is taught. It is difficult to see any difference between a spiritually blind unbeliever and a believer with his eyes shut.

John 3:19: And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. 20 For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved. 21 But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.
