A Chore Or A Delight?
Luke 1:74-75: That he would grant unto us, that we being delivered out of the hand of our enemies might serve him without fear, In holiness and righteousness before him, all the days of our life.
That he would grant unto us, expresses a desire for some gift from God. that we . . . might serve him without fear. Serving Him without fear is the desired and desirable gift.
James 1:17: Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.
Every good thing is from God. Every perfect thing is from God. Nothing bad comes from God. Nothing imperfect comes from God.
Jeremiah 29:11: For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.
When I first became saved I studied the word minister. I learned that it meant servant. I didn*t like that. Easton*s Bible Dictionary defines it this way: One who serves, as distinguished from the master.
As I grow in the Lord I learn that being a servant is a good thing. Serving others is the means that God uses to bless me. As I pass along a blessing from the Lord more of it sticks to me than I pass along. Serving others blesses ME. Serving is a duty AND a privilege. Serving is not a burden. Serving lifts me up. Serving is not a chore. It is a joy. Serving is rewarded now and in the future. Serving God gets the best rewards. Serving God is not what He needs it is what WE need. It is a great privilege is to serve the Almighty Creator of the Universe. When we serve those around us or even those that seem beneath us we are serving Him.
Hebrews 13:2: Be not forgetful to entertain strangers: for thereby some have entertained angels unawares.
Matthew 25:40: And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.
Matthew 25:45: Then shall he answer them, saying, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye did it not to one of the least of these, ye did it not to me.
Serving self is what drags us down. Serving God is a good and perfect gift FROM Him.
