Correction And Instruction
Where do you get your correction and instruction? If you don*t get those things from God and the Bible you are getting them from the wrong place.
2 Timothy 3:16: All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
The reproof of God and the Bible are what tell us that we need correction and instruction. The unsaved do not naturally want God*s reproof, correction or instruction.
1 Corinthians 2:14: But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.
The flesh of saved people does not want reproof, correction or instruction either. The Apostle Paul is exhibit A of this truth.
Romans 7:18: For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no good thing: for to will is present with me; but how to perform that which is good I find not.
According to my Scofield Bible he wrote that about 27 years after he was saved. If anyone reading this believes that they do not need God*s reproof, correction and instruction they need to apply the following passages to themselves.
Isaiah 53:6: All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.
Jeremiah 10:23: O LORD, I know that the way of man is not in himself: it is not in man that walketh to direct his steps.
Romans 3:10: As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one:
Proverbs 14:12: There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.
Ezra 8:21: Then I proclaimed a fast there, at the river of Ahava, that we might afflict ourselves before our God, to seek of him a right way for us, and for our little ones, and for all our substance.
Ephesians 5:9: (For the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and righteousness and truth;)
The Holy Spirit is the source of ALL goodness and righteousness. We are not. Those things do not originate with us.
Mark 10:18: And Jesus said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God.
Sometimes God gives us reproof, correction and instruction through a Spirit-filled mortal individual or our conscience but He is still the source.
2 Chronicles 7:14: If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.
Psalms 139:23: Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts: 24 And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.
