The Duration Of Our Pity Parties

Have you noticed how long your pity parties last and what causes them? My pity parties last about the same length of time as the length of time that there is some sin between me and my God.

Isaiah 59:2: But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear.

They last as long as I cover my sin.

Proverbs 28:13: He that covereth his sins shall not prosper: but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy.

They last as long as I withhold myself and my life from the Lord. They last as long as I am out of His will.

Romans 12:1: I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. 2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

They last until my sin is forgiven.

1 John 1:9: If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

They last as long as I go my own way instead of walking with the Lord.

Psalms 16:11: Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore.

They last as long as I am forgetful of the Lord. They last as long as I fail to trust Him.

Isaiah 26:3: Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.

They last as long as I am not content. They last until I remember that He will never leave me.

Hebrews 13:5: Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.

1 Timothy 6:6: But godliness with contentment is great gain.

They last until I remember that I belong to Him.

1 Corinthians 6:19: What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?

They last until I remember that He is keeping me.

1 Peter 1:1a: Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ, to the strangers . . . 5 Who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.

They last as long as I walk in the flesh rather than permitting the Holy Spirit to fill me.

Galatians 5:16: This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh. 22a But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, . . .

They last as long as I serve self instead of God (and others). They last as long as I fail to serve Him. Serving Him CAUSES gladness.

Psalms 100:2: Serve the LORD with gladness: come before his presence with singing.

Pity parties are not just caused by sin, they are sin. For believers they are disobedience to a multitude of instructions in the Bible, including these two:

1 Thessalonians 5:16: Rejoice evermore. 18 In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.
