Eternal Life IS In Believers1 John 5:11, 12: And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. 12 He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.
The passage is in the present tense. It would do no damage to truth if it read this way: He that hath the Son now hath life now. If eternal life does not enter into you in the person of Jesus Christ in this life, you will never have it. If you don*t receive the new and changed and separated life of a Christian at some point in this life, you will never get it.
Romans 6:4: Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.
Galatians 2:20: I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.
2 Corinthians 6:15-18: And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel? 16 And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. 17 Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you, 18 And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty.
Whatever God wants us to give up of our old life will be worth nothing compared with eternal life.Philippians 3:8: Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ, Romans 8:18: For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.
1 Corinthians 2:9: But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.
Some Christians would prefer to live the old carnal life. Their flesh prefers to quench the Holy Spirit and His influence upon their lives. Even though Christians like that are sometimes in the majority, they are the abnormal ones. They stunt their own spiritual growth. We all do some of that. And when we do we are miserable. King David was miserable when he was involved in sin. Consider his prayer and pray it yourself.
Psalms 51:12: Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation; and uphold me with thy free spirit.
Charles Haddon on Psalms 104:16a: The trees of the Lord are full of sap.
