Unger*s Bible dictionary: Fellowship means companionship, a relation in which parties hold something in common. Familiar intercourse. As in the case between men, no one can be in fellowship with God unless he possesses like purposes and feelings. Love for and fellowship with one another are necessary to, and an evidence of fellowship with God. The Bible definition of the word fellowship: partnership, literally participation, or social intercourse, benefaction, communicate, communication, contribution or distribution. Webster*s definitions of fellowship: Friendly relationship, companionship, a union of peers, fraternity, etc. I believe I heard somewhere that Webster was a believer. It is an amazing thing that a Holy all-powerful God would want fellowship with filthy sinners like us. Psalms 8:4: What is man, that thou art mindful of him? and the son of man, that thou visitest him? I don*t recall his exact words, but Doctor J. Vernon McGee expressed this truth: It is the height of arrogance and foolishness for puny little men who live on God*s earth, drink God*s water, eat God*s food, breath God*s air and benefit from God*s sunshine to reject the incredible privilege of having fellowship with Him. Lord help us to be wise enough to desire and seek fellowship with you. Help us to fight tooth and nail against the sin that hinders fellowship with you! Isaiah 59:2: But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear. Job 5:17: Behold, happy is the man whom God correcteth: therefore despise not thou the chastening of the Almighty: Hebrews 12:5: And ye have forgotten the exhortation which speaketh unto you as unto children, My son, despise not thou the chastening of the Lord, nor faint when thou art rebuked of him: 6 For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth. 7 If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not? 8 But if ye be without chastisement, whereof all are partakers, then are ye bastards, and not sons. 9 Furthermore we have had fathers of our flesh which corrected us, and we gave them reverence: shall we not much rather be in subjection unto the Father of spirits, and live? 10 For they verily for a few days chastened us after their own pleasure; but he for our profit, that we might be partakers of his holiness. 11 Now no chastening for the present seemeth to be joyous, but grievous: nevertheless afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them which are exercised thereby. The chastening of the Lord is a small price to pay for fellowship with Him. Are we enjoying fellowship with Him or do we not know how wonderful it is? |
