Fresh Starts Available As Needed
You have probably gotten prescriptions for medications with the phrase as needed. God gives believers everything as needed. And He knows what they need, even when they don*t.
2 Peter 1:3a: According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, . . .
Receiving Jesus is much more than turning over a new leaf. Receiving Jesus is the first fresh start that God gives us. It is God giving us a fresh start and following it with many more fresh starts. It is our first fresh start with our sins forgiven. It is our first fresh start as children of God. It is our first fresh start as new creatures. It is our first fresh start moving in the direction of God*s will. After we have received Jesus we can have fresh starts whenever we need them.
Lamentations 3:22-23: It is of the LORD*S mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. 23 They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.
Did you wake up this morning? Stupid question but you woke up this morning only because of God*s compassion and mercy. You woke up today because God has some purpose for your life today. We must not believe that we deserve today. We must not believe that we did not sin yesterday or last night.
Ephesians 2:10: For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.
Luke 9:23: And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me.
James 4:15: For that ye ought to say, If the Lord will, we shall live, and do this, or that.
Pastor Dan Lupton was my pastor for a number of years. He once preached a wonderful message about The Buoyancy of The Cross. We take it up and when we are too weak to carry it, it carries us. We try to serve the Lord and when we need carrying He carries us. We try to obey the Lord and when we need carrying He carries us. Taking up our cross means that we are taking up God*s will for our lives. When we try to do His will, He carries us. Wood floats. When we take up our cross on dry land it might seem heavy, but it will keep us on top of the floods of trouble we will encounter. It can be encouraging if we think of our crosses as fresh starts, new ways to please God and new ways for God to carry us.
We NEED the crosses He has chosen for us every day. We need His love, compassion and mercy many times each day, all day and every day and they are promised.
Matthew 6:8b: . . . your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him.
