Go Shopping In The Bible

2 Timothy 3:16-17: All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: 17 That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.

We spend a lot of time shopping in lumber yards, flooring stores, furniture stores, hardware stores etc. in order to keep our homes the way we want them. I have heard people say that a house is like a bottomless pit, you can throw in all the money you want. After decades in our homes you would think they would be well furnished with everything we need but it doesn*t work that way. Things wear out, we often tire of something in our home, we think of something new that might make our homes better in some way so we go out and buy it. We want our homes to be throughly furnished at all times.

Our bodies are the temples of the Holy Spirit. We belong to Him. Our lives belong to Him.

1 Corinthians 3:17: If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are.

1 Corinthians 6:19: What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?

Romans 12:1: I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.

Luke 9:24: For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: but whosoever will lose his life for my sake, the same shall save it.

In order to be throughly furnished people of God we need on a daily basis what the Bible provides.

Luke 9:23: And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me.

There are some things that we need a fresh dose of every day. We need the inspiration of God, we need to live by His doctrines, we need to be convicted of our sin, we need correction, we need instruction in how to live, and we need to be furnished with all the materials for all good works, not just one good work per day.

We need spiritual maintenance more than our homes need physical maintenance. We need to go shopping in the Bible every day. Since the shopping needs to come before the using we should do the shopping first thing each day. There is a Biblical principle that we have more spiritual power after we fast or while we are fasting. Since we don*t eat at night, night-time is a natural time of fasting. The Lord is definitely more influential upon me in the morning before I eat anything. As bed-time approaches I run out of gas, both physically and spiritually.
