We humans would greatly benefit if we could get just this one idea through our thick skulls -- God is good and we are not. If we can comprehend that, we will also know that everything He wills and everything He does and everything He wants us to do are also good and good for us!! Timothy Demy and Gary Stewart in their book In the Name of God:
Our human will is self-serving, short-sighted, unwise and sinful. It therefore leads to bad results. Sometimes it is a blessing that we don*t have the power to bring our desires to fruition. God*s will is pure, unselfish, and all-knowing. And He has the power to accomplish it. Deuteronomy 4:40: Thou shalt keep therefore his statutes, and his commandments, which I command thee this day, that it may go well with thee, and with thy children after thee, and that thou mayest prolong thy days upon the earth, which the Lord thy God giveth thee, for ever. Deuteronomy 5:16: Honour thy father and thy mother, as the Lord thy God hath commanded thee; that thy days may be prolonged, and that it may go well with thee, in the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee. Deuteronomy 5:33: Ye shall walk in all the ways which the Lord your God hath commanded you, that ye may live, and that it may be well with you, and that ye may prolong your days in the land which ye shall possess. The phrase that it may go well with thee appears many times in the Bible in connection with obeying the Lord. Psalm 106:12-15: speaking about the people of Israel: Then believed they his words; they sang his praise, They soon forgat his works; they waited not for his counsel: But lusted exceedingly in the wilderness, and tempted God in the desert. And he gave them their request; but sent leanness into their soul. Sometimes God gives us what we want and proves what we want is harmful. He also proves that He knows best and wants what is best. Proverbs 3:5: Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. Psalm 25:10: All the paths of the Lord are mercy and truth unto such as keep his covenant and his testimonies. Micah 2:7: O thou that art named the house of Jacob, is the spirit of the Lord straitened? are these his doings? do not my words do good to him that walketh uprightly? When the Bible asks questions like this, it is implied that the answer is a resounding Yes! Psalm 65:4: Blessed is the man whom thou choosest, and causest to approach unto thee, that he may dwell in thy courts: we shall be satisfied with the goodness of thy house, even of thy holy temple. There is no satisfaction for the human heart apart from a relationship with God through Jesus Christ. There are countless passages in the Bible that prove the idea that we are far better off to trust Him and obey Him. The old hymn says: Trust and obey, for there*s no other way to be happy in Jesus . . . but to trust and obey. Author Unknown: God gives His best to those who leave the choice with Him.The following is a quote by Charles Haddon Spurgeon: Psalm 47:4: He shall choose our inheritance for us. |
