Gods Purposes For The Bible

First and foremost His purpose for the Bible is to accomplish His will. Isaiah 55:11: So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.

Gods will for mankind is to save us from Hell and take us to Heaven. 2 Peter 3:9: The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

The purposes of the Bible coincide with the reason Jesus was sent down to earth. Luke 19:10: For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost.

The Bible causes us to know we have eternal life. 1 John 5:13: These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.

The Bible is to give us faith. Romans 10:17: So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

The Bible is to set God*s children apart from the world. John 17:17: Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.

The Bible will guide us. Psalms 119:105: Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.

The Bible will keep us from sin and sin will keep us from the Bible.Psalms 119:11: Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.

The Bible is for us to study. 2 Timothy 2:15: Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

It is profitable for many things. 2 Timothy 3:16: All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: 17 That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.

A doctrine is what is important to teach and learn. Reproof is so we will know that we are guilty sinners in need of forgiveness. Correction is so we will stop sinning and do what is right. Instruction in righteousness is self-explanatory. It will perfect (complete). It does not mean we will be as perfect as God but when we get to Heaven we will be perfected completely. Throughly furnished means it gives us everything we need to do what God wants us to do.

The Bible is alive and powerful. Hebrews 4:12: For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

The Bible will bless us and make whatever we do spiritually better. Psalms 1:1: Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. 2 But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night. 3 And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.

The Bible is food for the soul. It causes spiritual growth. 1 Peter 2:2: As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby:

The Bible is more necessary than food. Job 23:12: Neither have I gone back from the commandment of his lips; I have esteemed the words of his mouth more than my necessary food.

And the Bible is for us to enjoy. Romans 7:22: For I delight in the law of God after the inward man:

Rejecting or neglecting the Bible causes us great harm and great loss.
