Hearts And Lives
Those we think of as the worst among men do not permit God in their hearts or lives. Some believe they can give Him their hearts but not their lives. Others seem to believe they only need to give their lives to Him (good works) but not their hearts. But all of those are disastrously wrong. In the eyes of God they are all equal. They are sinners devoid of God. When He possesses our hearts He naturally, or we should say supernaturally, also possesses our lives. It cannot be just one, it must be both. He does not work in our hearts and not our lives and He does not work in our lives without our hearts.
Proverbs 4:23: Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.
Ephesians 4:17: This I say therefore, and testify in the Lord, that ye henceforth walk not as other Gentiles walk, in the vanity of their mind, 18 Having the understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God through the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart:
Matthew 12:34: O generation of vipers, how can ye, being evil, speak good things? for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh.
Luke 6:45: A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is evil: for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh.
Galatians 2:20: I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.
Ephesians 3:17: That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love, 18 May be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height; 19 And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God. 20 Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us, 21 Unto him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Amen.
Philippians 2:13: For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.
Colossians 1:29: Whereunto I also labour, striving according to his working, which worketh in me mightily.
There are some who give their hearts and lives to the Lord, but then live their lives in the flesh. While He does possess their lives, their lives will not please Him, they will forfeit peace and joy, they will expose themselves to His chastening and correction and they will not possess many of His blessings in this life or many of the rewards they might have enjoyed in Heaven.
