There are many delights promised in the book of Revelation to those who are overcomers. I want you to know that overcomers are not just super-saints or elite Christians. ALL who have trusted Christ are and shall be the overcomers.
Revelation 12:7-11: And there was war in heaven: Michael and his angels fought against the dragon; and the dragon fought and his angels, And prevailed not; neither was their place found any more in heaven. And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him. And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night. And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death.
Heaven will be a glorious place mostly because of the presence of the Savior but also because of the absence of Satan. Some of the angels have incredible power. Just one of them killed 185,000 enemies of Israel in II Kings 19:35. This battle between the holy angels and the fallen angels will be an incredible display of power. The accuser of the brethren is in heaven now accusing us. Therefore, I believe this great battle takes place at the beginning of the Tribulation period. (A future 7 year period when horrible judgments and punishment happen on earth. Satan will be on earth fulfilling many of the prophecies about that time. I believe we who are believers will be taken to heaven at about the same time that Satan is thrown out into the earth.)
Since Jesus didn*t shed his blood for angels, those who overcame Satan by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony have to be the brethren that were accused by Satan before God. Those brethren were probably believers that were already there AND those of us just arriving on the scene. In my opinion, it would be pointless for Satan to accuse the brethren who are already in heaven, so I believe he majors on those of us still on earth. The only example we have in the Bible of Satan accusing a brother is in Job 1:9-11 and 2:4-5.
We who will be the overcomers in heaven are also overcomers here on earth.
I John 5:4-5: For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith. Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God?
Now . . . on to the wonderful things that are promised to us, the overcomers.
Revelation 2:7: He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the tree of life, which is in the midst of the paradise of God.
I love fruit. I hope that you do also. But whether you do love fruit or not, when you get to heaven and eat the fruit of the tree of life, you will be a fruit lover!! Sometimes I am not satisfied with the fruit here on earth when it is unripe, rotten or out of season. Every bite of fruit from that tree will be delicious!! And it will produce 12 different kinds of delicious fruit.
Revelation 22:1-2: And he shewed me a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding out of the throne of God and of the Lamb. In the midst of the street of it, and on either side of the river, was there the tree of life, which bare twelve manner of fruits, and yielded her fruit every month: and the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations.
There were two notable trees in the Garden of Eden. One, of course, was the tree with the forbidden fruit from which Adam and Eve ate and fell into sin. We don*t hear as much about the other tree, the tree of life. If Adam and Eve had been permitted to eat from that tree, they would have lived forever in their fallen state. God drove Adam and Eve out of the garden and kept them from eating from that tree at that time because it would have been a horrible thing to live in their sinful state forever.
Genesis 3:22-24: And the Lord God said, Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil: and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live for ever: Therefore the Lord God sent him forth from the garden of Eden, to till the ground from whence he was taken. So he drove out the man; and he placed at the east of the garden of Eden Cherubims, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to keep the way of the tree of life.
Praise God, because He kept Adam and Eve from eating of that tree and because in the future, we will be able to partake of it in our pure and holy condition and live forever in that state of perfection!!!
Revelation 2:17: He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the hidden manna, and will give him a white stone, and in the stone a new name written, which no man knoweth saving he that receiveth it.
I have often wondered what the manna tasted like that the people of Israel ate in the desert. If we aren*t going to be eating the same manna, it will be better manna.
Revelation 3:5: He that overcometh, the same shall be clothed in white raiment; and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life, but I will confess his name before my Father, and before his angels,
Revelation 3:12: Him that overcometh will I make a pillar in the temple of my God, and he shall go no more out: and I will write upon him the name of my God, and the name of the city of my God, which new Jerusalem, which cometh down out of heaven from my God: and I will write upon him my new name.
I Peter 2:5 calls us lively stones. Perhaps lively pillars would be appropriate. We will be permanent and useful citizens of heaven.
Jesus speaking in Revelation 3:21: To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in his throne.
It is difficult to imagine what it would be like to sit with the President of the United States. How much more wonderful will it be to be seated with the Lord Jesus Christ, the Lord of Lords and King of Kings in His throne.
Revelation 21:7: He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God and he shall be my son.
I have occasionally wished for people to leave me wealth, property or goods. Anything and everything that I might inherit on this earth would be paltry by comparison to all things in heaven!!!
