I Can Do All Things
Philippians 4:13: I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.
This is not a blank check for our flesh.
Romans 7:18: For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no good thing: for to will is present with me; but how to perform that which is good I find not.
Jesus has never done anything evil and never will. He has never committed a sin and never will. He has never done anything selfish and never will. Therefore, we cannot do anything evil, sinful or selfish through Christ.
John 14:13: And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.
This not a blank check for our flesh either. We can never do anything evil, sinful or selfish in His name.
Psalms 37:4: Delight thyself also in the LORD; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart.
This is another passage that our deceitful flesh (heart) would like to appropriate as a blank check.
Jeremiah 17:9: The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?
James 4:2: Ye lust, and have not: ye kill, and desire to have, and cannot obtain: ye fight and war, yet ye have not, because ye ask not. 3 Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts.
Our flesh is deceitful enough to try to convince us that what we want is the right thing when it is truly sinful, evil and selfish.
Romans 8:26: Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.
Deuteronomy 29:29: The secret things belong unto the LORD our God: but those things which are revealed belong unto us and to our children for ever, that we may do all the words of this law.
There are things that the Lord knows that the best of us do not. In particular, He knows what His will is better than we do. We need to discern the difference between the desires of our flesh and the will of God. He WANTS us to know His will and will help us to know it, else how could we do it. We can know more about His will than we do now by studying the Bible, meditating on it, regularly attending a Biblical church and committing our hearts, lives and works unto Him.
Psalms 119:11: Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.
Psalms 119:105: Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.
Proverbs 6:23: For the commandment is a lamp; and the law is light; and reproofs of instruction are the way of life:
Proverbs 16:3: Commit thy works unto the LORD, and thy thoughts shall be established.
Psalms 25:14: The secret of the LORD is with them that fear him; and he will shew them his covenant.
