Increase Your IQ
Unbelievers in Jesus Christ have spiritually negative understanding. We might call it a spiritually negative IQ. They know things that are false. The more intellectual they are the more falsehood they can believe. They need to be drastically changed in order to acquire positive spiritual understanding. They must be recreated. They must be regenerated. Just as a fish cannot absorb oxygen from air an unbeliever cannot absorb spiritual truth from the Kingdom of God. Turning an unbeliever into a believer requires a bigger miracle than turning a water breathing fish into an air breathing animal or turning a fish that can swim into a bird that can fly.
Titus 3:5: Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;
2 Corinthians 5:17: Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.
Becoming a Christian could also be compared to a change of polarity. A magnet attracts some metals at one pole and repels them at the other. An unbeliever*s polarity repels God*s truth while a believer*s polarity draws it to him.
1 Corinthians 2:14: But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.
Proverbs 9:10: The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding.
Proverbs 1:7: The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction.
John 3:3: Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.
An unbeliever*s spiritual understanding is about equal in value to a zero balance in an account in a defunct bank. His efforts to find God*s truth via his own understanding get the same result as a child trying to get milk out of a pacifier.
I cannot precisely measure what I have learned since receiving Jesus that I did not and could not learn before. But there are many things that I know now that I had no clue about before. There are many things that I believed before that I have now learned are untrue. Receive Christ . . . increase your wisdom. Receive Christ . . . increase your knowledge. Receive Christ . . . increase your understanding. Receive Christ . . . unlearn falsehood. Those phrases are an inadequate description of what happens to one when he becomes a Christian. He gets access to infinite (measureless) knowledge and wisdom of Divine, Spiritual and Holy things. He is given a glimpse of the Kingdom of God.
Before I got saved I believed that Christians were illogical, naive and arrogant. Now unbelievers sometimes think I am those things. They can*t understand how one who they used to believe was intelligent can now be so happy with what they see as illogical and naive. Often I can*t explain to them why this is so. One reason is that I now have a teacher that I didn*t have before, and whom they still do not have, The Holy Spirit. Another reason is that I have been given a different capacity for spiritual knowledge than I had before. Spiritual truth and knowledge are in a different realm. They are not limited by our finite minds. Their source is Infinite Diety which now resides in us.
1 Corinthians 2:16: For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him? But we have the mind of Christ.
When we receive Christ into our hearts He brings into them a new capacity for knowledge and wisdom.
1 Corinthians 2:9-14: But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him. But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God. For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God. Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God. Which things also we speak, not in the words which man*s wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual. But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.
A person that is alive can know things. A dead person cannot. I was spiritually dead and now I am spiritually alive. I had a negative spiritual IQ. I cannot measure what my spiritual IQ is. It is not infinite like God*s but it is definitely positive.
John 5:24: Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.
1 John 3:14: We know that we have passed from death unto life, because we love the brethren. He that loveth not his brother abideth in death.
James 3:14: But if ye have bitter envying and strife in your hearts, glory not, and lie not against the truth. This wisdom descendeth not from above, but is earthly, sensual, devilish. For where envying and strife is, there is confusion and every evil work. But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy.
A mortal man can change his mind but he cannot change his heart.
Romans 10:9-10: That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
