Jesus* Return

One of the most delightful promises in all of the Bible is the promise of Jesus* return. How much we enjoy coming into the presence of our loved ones or having them come into our presence. How much more will we enjoy His coming for us. On this earth we often have the sorrow of saying good-by to loved ones. When Jesus comes for us, we will never be separated from Him again for all of eternity.

Jesus* return will be accomplished in two phases. First He will return to the clouds of earth where we will meet Him in the air.

1 Thessalonians 4:16-18: For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. Wherefore comfort one another with these words.

1 Thessalonians 5:9-10: For God hath not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ, Who died for us, that, whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with him.

In the second phase 7 years later He will return all the way to the earth. When His feet touch the earth the Mount of Olives will be divided with a valley in the middle. This time we will return with Him and rule and reign with Him on earth for 1,000 years.

Zechariah 14:4: And his feet shall stand in that day upon the mount of Olives, which is before Jerusalem on the east, and the mount of Olives shall cleave in the midst thereof toward the east and toward the west, and there shall be a very great valley; and half of the mountain shall remove toward the north, and half of it toward the south.

Revelation 20:6: Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the first resurrection: on such the second death hath no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with him a thousand years.

I would like to give you some scriptures that have delighted me since I became a Christian about our glorious future.

John 14:2-3: In my Father*s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.

It*s hard to imagine how wonderful that place will be. He created the universe in 6 days, but he*s already had almost 2000 years to prepare that place for us.

My oldest brother Glenn was about 10 years older than I, so we had no sibling rivalry. In fact, he was a hero to me. I remember he used to take me places with him, fun places like hunting, target shooting and swimming. Sometimes those things required a little preparation on his part, like the preparations Jesus has made for us who belong to him. When my brother had promised to take me swimming after he got off work, I remember how I waited and watched anxiously for his coming. When we understand Jesus* promises to come for us and the wonderful things awaiting us with Him and from Him, our waiting will be eager, like mine was for my brother.

Revelation 21:4: And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.

I Corinthians 2:9: But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.

And when he comes for us, he will change us into perfect, sinless beings. It is important that we will be changed, since the kind of beings we are now could not enjoy heaven. We would be out of place. We would pollute it. It wouldn*t be heaven then.

I Corinthians 15:51, 52: Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.

Wow! Incorruptible! We shall never be tainted by sin again, our own or that of anyone else.

I John 3:2-3: Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is. And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure.

Wow! We*re going to be like Jesus! When the Bible says sons, it means daughters also. We can have a little taste of heaven right here on earth by being part of a loving Biblical church.

Hebrews 10:24-25: And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works: Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.
