Joy And Peace In Believing

The words joy and peace appear in the same verse in the Bible only six times. If we want to learn how to have joy and peace we can learn how to have them better from those six verses than anywhere else. The Lord is the best teacher there is and His teaching is in the Bible.

Romans 15:13: Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that ye may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost.

Since I surrendered my heart to the Lord Jesus I have had joy and peace that I cannot fully understand or explain. The Bible explains it far better than I ever could. This kind of joy and peace is Divine. We are not Divine. God the Father is Divine, God the Son is Divine and God the Holy Spirit is Divine. Divine joy and peace come from the Godhead.

Philippians 4:7: And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

Divine Joy and peace go together. And they go together in believing. It will be helpful to understand what the Bible says about believing. First of all, we need to believe enough in Jesus (on His name) to receive Him.

John 1:12: But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:

When we believe in Jesus enough to receive Him we get our first taste of this divine joy and peace. There is an inferior and fleeting type of joy and peace for those who do not receive Jesus. Once we have received Jesus we learn that the joy and peace in believing is far better. After we receive Jesus, we have the opportunity to live all of our lives in believing. The joy and peace can continue. When we have lapses and gaps in believing, we have lapses and gaps in our joy and peace. The more we live by faith the less lapses and gaps in our joy and peace. Each and every Christian will have those lapses and gaps. Each and every Christian will have difficulties. Our lapses and gaps will be worse for us than anything unbelievers experience because they have never had a taste of divine joy and peace. But I have never encountered a Christian who wanted to go back from the highs and lows of Christianity to having no divine joy and peace. The lowest thing anyone can experience on earth is the lack of joy and peace of unbelievers.

Galatians 5:22: But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,

Joy, peace and faith (believing) is NOT the fruit of Ron. Put your name there. They are not your fruit either. They are the fruit of the Holy Spirit. We cannot have this kind of faith without the Holy Spirit. Neither can we have this kind of joy and peace without Him. The moment we receive Jesus, as many as received Him, are sealed by the Holy Spirit. After He has sealed us we have the opportunity to be filled with Him AND live in Him and walk in Him and continue to bear His fruit.

Ephesians 4:30: And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption.

Galatians 5:25: If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.

Ephesians 5:18: And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit;

Romans 14:17: For the kingdom of God is not meat and drink; but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost.

There is divine peace and joy in the kingdom of God that no one can see until they have been born again.

John 3:3: Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.

Being born again is a mysterious thing to those who have not experienced that miracle. Becoming a child of God and becoming born again mean the same thing. We are born again when we receive Jesus.

John 1:12: But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:

Old Testament believers also had joy and peace in believing even though those things are clarified better in the New Testament.

Proverbs 12:20: Deceit is in the heart of them that imagine evil: but to the counsellors of peace is joy.

Isaiah 55:12: For ye shall go out with joy, and be led forth with peace: the mountains and the hills shall break forth before you into singing, and all the trees of the field shall clap their hands.

Zechariah 8:19: Thus saith the LORD of hosts; The fast of the fourth month, and the fast of the fifth, and the fast of the seventh, and the fast of the tenth, shall be to the house of Judah joy and gladness, and cheerful feasts; therefore love the truth and peace.
