Light

There is much about light that we do not understand, especially about spiritual light. Physical light is part of His creation. God Himself is spiritual and moral light. When we get to heaven there will not be any need for the created light. The spiritual light will be all that will be necessary. We will certainly be better reflections of His light then than we are now.

1 John 1:5: This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.

Revelation 21:23: And the city had no need of the sun, neither of the moon, to shine in it: for the glory of God did lighten it, and the Lamb is the light thereof.

God lets His spiritual light into our lives, carefully measuring the right amount at the right time for the right purposes. He gives us enough light to trust Him. When people turn from Satan to God they turn from darkness to light.

Acts 26:18: To open their eyes, and to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan unto God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins, and inheritance among them which are sanctified by faith that is in me.

John 8:12: Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.

John 9:5: As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.

John 12:46: I am come a light into the world, that whosoever believeth on me should not abide in darkness.

Close your eyes for a few seconds and then open them again. Pay attention to the difference closing your eyes makes and the difference opening them makes. Imagine what it would be like to go through life with your eyes locked shut. There is spiritual light that some people cannot see. There is spiritual light that some may be rejecting by closing their eyes and minds to it. God would like to flip the switch and turn on the spiritual light for all of us. He would like to open our spiritual eyes so that we would see that the spiritual light is good.

Most of you have probably threaded a needle in your lifetime. Have you ever threaded a needle in the dark? Imagine that you needed some surgery to save your life. Would you want the surgeon to operate on you in the dark? We need light for everything. We have a far greater need than physical light. Blind people are sometimes able to see the light of Jesus Christ just as well as those of us who can see. We need that kind of spiritual light if we are to see Christ and get to heaven.

I have had some vigorous debates with unbelievers. They have tried to change my mind about Biblical truths and values. That has been something like a blind person trying to lead a person who can see or like a person wearing a blindfold trying to lead a person without one.

John 1:1-5: In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life; and the life was the light of men. And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.

The darkness comprehended it not means the world and the people comprehended it not. In the book of Ephesians people are called darkness or light.

Ephesians 5:8: For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light:

People did more than not comprehend the light. They rejected light. When they rejected light they rejected Christ. People choose to reject light. God gives all men opportunity to see His light, comprehend it, act on it and be blessed by it.

Romans 1:18-22: For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness; Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them. For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse: Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened. Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools,

When men reject the light of Jesus Christ they bring upon themselves condemnation. They reject the light of Jesus Christ because it reveals that they are sinful and they want to keep on sinning. They reject the light of Jesus Christ because they do not want to be corrected and changed by it. If men have not been changed by the light of Jesus Christ, they have not fully seen it. They hate what little of it they have seen.

John 3:19-20: And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved.
