John 3:16: For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
Love gives what the object of love needs. We needed a Savior and God gave us one. We don*t usually have to give our lives. Our giving is usually time or money or help of some sort. Love is generous. It sometimes gives more than is needed, it gives what will bless the object of love. Love is unselfish and thoughtful. Love proves itself. When men have it, it cannot always be hidden.
1 Corinthians 13:1-8: Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, (LOVE) I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal. 2 And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing. 3 And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, and have not charity, it profiteth me nothing. 4 Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up, 5 Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil; 6 Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth; 7 Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things. 8 Charity never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away.
What changes us from haters into lovers? RECEIVING JESUS. When we receive Jesus He gives us the Holy Spirit who in turn sheds the love of God abroad in our hearts.Romans 8:9: But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.
Romans 5:5: And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.
Galatians 5:19-22a: Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, 20 Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, 21 Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God. 22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, . . .
The kind of love that God wants us demonstrate is not just a feeling. It is a command and as such, it is a choice. The indwelling Holy Spirit helps us obey the command and make the choice.Luke 10:27 : And he answering said, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbour as thyself.
Are you a lover and a giver? If not, you have either not received Jesus or you are not walking in the Spirit and you are quenching Him.Galatians 5:16: This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.
1 Thessalonians 5:19: Quench not the Spirit.
When I consider how great is the power of the Holy Spirit of God, I am frightened that my flesh has the power to quench Him. My flesh and yours have the power to hate rather than love.
