The Most Important Thing

The most important thing to know is the way to heaven. The most important thing to do in this life is to get started on the way to heaven. Men do not naturally know the way to heaven and they do not naturally want to get started toward heaven. Their natural tendency even when they know the way to heaven is to delay getting started. That is foolish because they do not know when it will be too late to do that. The most important time in any man*s life is the moment he starts toward heaven. It is the best and most rewarding moment in his life.

The way to heaven finds you. Your task is to willingly respond. The way to heaven offers itself to you. You must accept the offer. It is like coming to a fork in the road. Most people choose the wrong road and never again come to the right choice.

Matthew 7:13-14: Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.

Being on the way to heaven changes you. Many people don*t want to be changed so they never get on the way to heaven. Some people think they ought to change themselves before they get on the way to heaven. They think that they can change themselves and that changing themselves will get them started toward heaven. It will not.

Only the people on the way to heaven know what the way to heaven is like. People who are not on the way to heaven can only guess about what it is like. They can only know about it second-handedly. They can only counterfeit the way to heaven. People who are on the way to heaven were not always on that way. Most of them remember what it was like when they were not on the way to heaven. They know they were on the way to hell. They understand what it was like to be on the way to hell and what it is like to be on the way to heaven.

The God of heaven decides what it is like on the way to heaven and when and where we can get on it. Unbelievers want to decide what it should be like on the way to heaven. That is why they don*t want to get on it. Some people who are on the way to hell try to tell those of us who are on the way to heaven what it should be like to be on the way to heaven. They don*t have a clue.

People can be very intelligent and still not know the way to heaven. People can be very charming and still not be on the way to heaven. The people not on the way to heaven think the ones headed for heaven are fools. The people on the way to heaven know that those not on the way to heaven are headed for trouble.

To an unbeliever it can appear that there are a number of ways to heaven. An unbeliever might pick one of the several ways he thinks there are to heaven. He might believe one verse from the Bible and reject all the others. He might fasten his hope of heaven on just one fact about getting there. The things the Bible says about getting to heaven are not separate. They are all facts about the same process.

John 3:16: For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

John 1:12: But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:

John 3:3: Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.

Mark 4:12 : That seeing they may see, and not perceive; and hearing they may hear, and not understand; lest at any time they should be converted, and their sins should be forgiven them.

Luke 13:3: I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.

John 17:3: And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.

Ephesians 2:8: For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:

Matthew 5:8: Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.

Luke 17:33: Whosoever shall seek to save his life shall lose it; and whosoever shall lose his life shall preserve it.

Romans 10:13: For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

Romans 10:9: That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.

Mark 16:16: He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.

(I must state here that the baptism that saves has nothing to do with water. The baptism that saves is when the Holy Spirit baptizes us into the body of Christ. Water baptism is only a physical illustration of that. 1 Corinthians 12:13: For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit. )

Question: If believers are accurate when they say there is only one way to heaven, which is the one way? Answer: All of the above. They all speak different truths about one God-given event. They are all wrapped up in one person, Jesus Christ.

John 14:6: Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

The way to heaven is of the Lord. It is too complicated, requires too much power, too much planning and too much coordination for a man to get it done. Saving oneself would be like someone putting his hands under his thighs and lifting himself off the ground. It can*t be done. He might be able to jump but he cannot stay off the ground.

How can we know we are on the way to heaven? Has God ever spoken to your heart and told you that you are?

Romans 8:16: The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:

Has God proven to you that you are on the way to heaven by changes He has made in you and your life? Has He taken away old things from you and your life? Have all things become new?

2 Corinthians 5:17: Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

Is being on the way to heaven the most important thing to you? Does it outshine everything else?
