My Feelings Are One Of My Idols
And if you are honest you will know that your feelings are one of your idols too. An idol is a substitute for God.
Colossians 4:12: Epaphras, who is one of you, a servant of Christ, saluteth you, always labouring fervently for you in prayers, that ye may stand perfect and complete in all the will of God.
Hebrews 10:36: For ye have need of patience, that, after ye have done the will of God, ye might receive the promise.
1 Peter 4:1: Forasmuch then as Christ hath suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves likewise with the same mind: for he that hath suffered in the flesh hath ceased from sin; 2 That he no longer should live the rest of his time in the flesh to the lusts of men, but to the will of God.
1 John 2:17: And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.
In my 7 plus decades the number of times I have done what I felt like doing certainly numbers in the millions. A Christian brother once shared with me that we make on average 33,000 choices and decisions every day. You do your own math. Though I have received Jesus into my heart and SOMETIMES do the will of God from my heart, my feelings are still an idol of my flesh.
Ephesians 6:6: Not with eyeservice, as menpleasers; but as the servants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart; 7 With good will doing service, as to the Lord, and not to men:
Before I received Jesus into my heart there was nothing in me that ever wanted to do the will of God. We ought to imagine a sign in bold letters that reads IDOLATER on the forehead of everyone we meet today and see that word on our own foreheads every time we look in a mirror.
Isaiah 53:6: All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.
Has the Lord ever done anything to your heart that gave you a desire to do His will?
Matthew 6:10b: . . . Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.
1 Thessalonians 1:8: For from you sounded out the word of the Lord not only in Macedonia and Achaia, but also in every place your faith to God-ward is spread abroad; so that we need not to speak any thing. 9 For they themselves shew of us what manner of entering in we had unto you, and how ye turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God;
Have we turned from the idol of our feelings to serve the living and true God? We have a very important reason to study the Bible:
Psalms 119:11: Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.
