A certain politician recently won election based on a promise of change. There is a far more important change needed in every man woman and child on the earth. We all need changing because we are like our father Adam.
Romans 5:17-18: For if by one man*s offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Therefore as by the offence of one judgment came upon all men to condemnation; even so by the righteousness of one the free gift came upon all men unto justification of life.
Genesis 3:17-19: And unto Adam he said, Because thou hast hearkened unto the voice of thy wife, and hast eaten of the tree, of which I commanded thee, saying, Thou shalt not eat of it: cursed is the ground for thy sake; in sorrow shalt thou eat of it all the days of thy life; Thorns also and thistles shall it bring forth to thee; and thou shalt eat the herb of the field; In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken: for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return.
God chooses us for the purpose of changing us. He wants to make us Christ-like instead of Adam-like.
Romans 8:29: For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren. Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified.
We cannot change ourselves.
Job 14:4: Who can bring a clean thing out of an unclean? not one.
Matthew 12:34: O generation of vipers, how can ye, being evil, speak good things? for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh.
Jeremiah 13:23: Can the Ethiopian change his skin, or the leopard his spots? then may ye also do good, that are accustomed to do evil.
Job 5:7: Yet man is born unto trouble, as the sparks fly upward.
Job 14:1: Man that is born of a woman is of few days, and full of trouble.
I have often had a desire to be a different person. I have wanted to be more attractive, wiser, and more proficient at the things I do. I have wanted more will power and ability to avoid sinning. I have wanted the ability to avoid mistakes. Alas, I have never had within myself the power to effect any major changes in myself.
In spite of my desire to be better I have done enough sinning to send a thousand men to Hell. I have made enough mistakes to ruin my life. Before I gave my heart to Christ my life was a wasteland. Thank God He has forgiven me. Thank God that He does not give me what I deserve. Thank God that He heaped upon Christ the death and suffering that I deserved.
As badly as I wanted to change myself and could not, God wanted to change me and could and did. He has graciously put some order and usefulness into my life. He has given me a measure of improvement in many areas. He has made many changes that I could not. Thank God that we do not have to change ourselves. We just have to permit Him to do it.
We all like to be accepted by our fellow man. It is far more important that we be accepted by God. We are totally unacceptable to Him until we receive Christ as Saviour and are changed by Him.
1 Peter 1:16: Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.
Hebrews 12:14: Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord:
Needless to say, we are not holy. We are sinful. Those of us who trust Christ don*t get punished for our sin. We don*t get the blame. We are credited with His righteousness.
Romans 4:8: Blessed is the man to whom the Lord will not impute sin.
Psalms 103:10: He hath not dealt with us after our sins; nor rewarded us according to our iniquities.
1 Corinthians 1:30: But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption:
2 Corinthians 5:21: For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.
Philippians 3:9: And be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith:
Romans 10:3: For they being ignorant of God*s righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God.
When we receive Christ into our hearts He is in us and we are in Him. The presence of His Spirit (the Holy Spirit) in us makes us into new creatures and only then will God accept us.
Philippians 1:19: For I know that this shall turn to my salvation through your prayer, and the supply of the Spirit of Jesus Christ,
2 Corinthians 5:17: Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.
Galatians 6:15: For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision availeth any thing, nor uncircumcision, but a new creature.
Ephesians 1:6: To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted in the beloved.
God*s kind of change is guaranteed to have a wonderful result. Submit yourselves to Him. You will never regret it!
Psalms 55:19: God shall hear, and afflict them, even he that abideth of old. Selah. Because they have no changes, therefore they fear not God.
Acts 28:27: For the heart of this people is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes have they closed; lest they should see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them.
