The Nicest Man In Hell

I have an acquaintance with whom I have shared the gospel a number of times.

Luke 19:10: For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost.

My acquaintance believes that he has never been lost. Or at least he does not remember ever being lost. Until we know that we are lost we do not ask the Lord to save us.

Romans 10:13: For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

He believes that he was born again when something was done to him when he was a baby. He does not personally remember whether that thing was done to him or not. Others have told him that it was. He believes them.

Jeremiah 17:5: Thus saith the LORD; Cursed be the man that trusteth in man, and maketh flesh his arm, and whose heart departeth from the LORD.

He is very dignified and behaves well. He is trying to prove something happened that he does not remember. Those others that told him that it happened are by implication telling him that he is not lost and has never been lost, at least not since that thing was done to him as a baby, and therefore he does not need to call upon the name of the Lord. He believes them.

1 Peter 3:15: But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear:

He gives an answer about something that he does not remember. He is the willing victim of one of the cruelest and most diabolical deceptions that Satan has ever devised. The man measures up only in his own eyes and in the eyes of those who have convinced him that he does. But we all fall short of God*s standard.

Romans 3:10: As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one:

Isaiah 64:6: But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away.

Romans 3:23: For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;

Proverbs 16:2: All the ways of a man are clean in his own eyes; but the LORD weigheth the spirits.

He tells others (including his own children) that the same thing that was done to him as a baby was done to them. By implication, he is telling them that they are not lost and have never been lost and do not need to call upon the name of the Lord. His adult children are involved in all manner of open sin. It is strange that he is not heart-broken over the life-style of his children. Strange that he is not concerned that the thing that was done to them as babies has not made them any different from Pagans. I understand what the man believes because I believed what he believes for about 20 years of my life until I learned that I was lost and called upon the name of the Lord. What a horrible reunion awaits that family in the Lake of Fire.

The man would be better off if he were an out-of-control drunkard. He would have a better chance to know that he is lost. Unless he realizes he is lost and asks the Lord to save him, he will probably be the nicest man in Hell. Please pray for my acquaintance and his family.
