ONLY By The Mercies Of God

Romans 12:1: I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.

Lamentations 3:22: It is of the LORD*S mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. 23 They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.

This shocking truth applies to the worst of sinners AND the best of believers. Most people believe that God would be lucky to have them. But consider the greatness of God*s mercies. If you have had an opportunity to present your body to the Him it was only because of His mercies. If you have an opportunity to serve Him it is only because of His mercies. Everything that we have short of condemnation is because of His mercies. If you are not in Hell already, it is because of the mercies of God. If you have lived another year on this side of Hell you have experienced the mercies of God much more than 365 more times. If your sins have been forgiven it is only because of the mercies of God. If you are a Christian, it is only because of the mercies of God. Most people think they want justice. But they do not realize that simple justice would have put them into a place of torments long ago. They think they deserve the goodness of God. They do not.

Psalms 56:1b: . . . Be merciful unto me, O God . . .

Psalms 57:1b: . . . Be merciful unto me, O God, . . .

Psalms 119:58b: . . . be merciful unto me . . .

Psalms 119:76a: Let, I pray thee, thy merciful kindness be for my comfort, . . .

Psalms 119:132b: . . . be merciful unto me, . . .

Luke 18:13: And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner.

Even believers are undeserving of God*s mercies. Even after we are saved we cannot earn His mercies. We often commit sins, sins that we don*t even know about. We can only have God*s mercies because the justice we all deserve fell upon Jesus.

Romans 5:8: But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

2 Corinthians 5:21: For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.

Romans 3:23: For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;

Romans 6:23: For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Ezekiel 18:20a: The soul that sinneth, it shall die. . . .

Romans 9:23: And that he might make known the riches of his glory on the vessels of mercy, which he had afore prepared unto glory,

1 Peter 2:10: Which in time past were not a people, but are now the people of God: which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy.

Zechariah 10:6: And I will strengthen the house of Judah, and I will save the house of Joseph, and I will bring them again to place them; for I have mercy upon them: and they shall be as though I had not cast them off: for I am the LORD their God, and will hear them.

Many, including believers, think that obeying the Lord is a pain in the neck or a chore. We should plead every day for Him to mercifully give us more occasions to please Him. And every day we should thank Him for another day chock full of His mercies.
