Our Standards Are Too Low

Proverbs 21:2: Every way of a man is right in his own eyes: but the LORD pondereth the hearts.

Romans 3:23: For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;

Our problem is not just that we all come short of the glory of God, it is also that we are all under sin. We have two barriers between us and God. We cannot cease from sinning and we cannot do what is right. The fatal problem is rejecting the one who can get rid of the barriers, the Lord Jesus Christ. He is the only one who can remove our sin and give us the needed glory. Without Him we are in a desperate condition.

1 Peter 1:24: For all flesh is as grass, and all the glory of man as the flower of grass. The grass withereth, and the flower thereof falleth away:

Isaiah 64:6: But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away.

We all try to live by our own standards. We grade on the curve or lower the bar. We want God and Heaven to be within our reach. But our standards are always under sin and always come short of God*s glory. Sometimes we measure up to our own standards but never to God*s. Sometimes others live up to our standards but never to God*s. Sometimes we don*t even live up to our own standards. Have you noticed how you lower the standards when you fail to meet the ones you have set?

Galatians 3:22: But the scripture hath concluded all under sin, that the promise by faith of Jesus Christ might be given to them that believe.

God has a plan for each of us. His plan is to forgive our sin and deal with us as if we had never sinned. His plan is to help us to stop sinning, do what is right and then take us to Heaven.

Romans 2:9-10: Tribulation and anguish, upon every soul of man that doeth evil, of the Jew first, and also of the Gentile; 10 But glory, honour, and peace, to every man that worketh good, to the Jew first, and also to the Gentile:

Ephesians 2:10: For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.

It is a glorious thing that when we receive the Lord Jesus Christ and His authority, we begin obeying Him and God rewards us as if we had always lived by His standards.

Romans 4:3-5: For what saith the scripture? Abraham believed God, and it was counted unto him for righteousness. 4 Now to him that worketh is the reward not reckoned of grace, but of debt. 5 But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness.
