Praising God Or Insulting Him
Do you notice that your favorite Christians don*t complain very much and perhaps not at all? It is not because they don*t have problems. It is because they know the Lord better than we complainers do.
Praising the Lord and complaining about Him are opposites. Complaining about Him is insulting Him. When we have faith in Him we praise Him. When we are in unbelief we complain about Him. We insult Him by ignoring Him and we insult Him by complaining about Him. When we complain we are ALWAYS complaining about the Lord. When we complain we demonstrate the weakness of our faith.
We complain when bad things happen to us or our loved ones. We complain without really knowing that we are complaining about God Himself.
God is sovereign, powerful, loving and wise.
We complain because we don*t recognize that He is sovereign. He is sovereign over everything. His sovereignty means that he causes or permits everything that happens to us. We complain because we don*t remember that everything He permits in our lives is put there for His purposes. We complain because we forget that the problems He permits in our lives are NECESSARY. We complain because we want to be sovereign. We insult His sovereignty.
We complain because we don*t remember that He has all power. We insult Him by behaving as if He is too weak to solve our problems. We insult His power. We complain because we want to control His power. Or we complain because we behave as if He is misusing His power.
We complain because we don*t remember that He loves us. We insult His love by behaving as if He doesn*t love us. We complain because we don*t remember that He works all things together for our good. We insult His promise to work all things for our good.
We insult His wisdom by believing that He is not wise enough to solve our problem. We insult Him by believing that we are wiser than Him. We insult Him when we behave as if He does not have all wisdom.
Psalms 113:3: From the rising of the sun unto the going down of the same the LORD*S name is to be praised.
When we remember that He is sovereign over all, all powerful, all loving, all wise and works all things for our good we can remember to praise Him rather than insulting Him. He is in charge of everything. He is all powerful and has noble purposes for everything He does. He loves us and works all things for our good. He is worthy no matter what happens to us.
Job 13:15a: Though he slay me, yet will I trust in him: . . .
We should have this attitude and perhaps pray something like this:
Lord I am having an awful time with this problem. I don*t understand why you have permitted it to happen to me. But I know that you love me and that you know best. Help me to learn from it what you want me to learn. Help me to become what you want to make me through the problem. Help me to do what you want me to do through the problem. Help me to get stronger because of the problem. Help me to get where you want me to go through the problem. Correct whatever the problem needs to correct about me. Help me to get back to *rejoicing evermore.* Help me to get back to *the joy of the Lord which is my strength.* Help me to get back to *praying without ceasing.* Help me to stop complaining about you and insulting you. Help me to praise you. *from the rising of the sun to the going down of the same.*
