I have inherited two or three of my mother*s Bibles. It has been a joy to use them and remember that they belonged to her. One has a wonderful Bible Encyclopedia. One had a little hand-written note in it:
To cheer you when the sun is lost behind the clouds,
And skies above seem gray.
Its wonderful to know,
God is just a prayer away.
Warren Wiersby: Prayer is helplessness casting itself on power.
Uncle Ben: True prayer is a way of life, not just a case of emergency.
Peter Dineka: Little prayer -- little power, much prayer -- much power, great prayer -- great power.
M. R. DeHaan: Prayer leaps over all barriers, stops at no distances and balks at no obstacles because it is in touch with the infinite resources of heaven. By prayer I can get on my knees and visit the missionaries in Africa, China and the North Pole in a flash of time. When I lay hold of the line of prayer I can move heaven and remove mountains. Even with our fastest mail, it takes days to reach people on the other side of the world, but by prayer I can reach them by way of the throne of grace in a moment. Prayer is omnipotent.
Unknown: Two big questions: Man says, God, I have prayed and prayed and prayed. Why don*t you answer?
God says: Man, I have answered and answered and answered. Why don*t you listen?
Unknown: The one concern of the devil is to keep Christians from praying. He fears nothing from prayerless studies, prayerless work, prayerless religion. He laughs at our toil, mocks at our wisdom, but trembles when we pray.
I believe God answers prayer,
Answers always, everywhere;
I may cast my anxious care,
Burdens I could never bear,
On the God who heareth prayer.
Never need my soul despair
Since He bids me boldly dare
To the secret place repair,
There to prove He answers prayer.
Hudson Taylor*s faith was proven and his prayers were answered many times: To move man, through God, by prayer alone.
