1 John 3:10, 14: In this the children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil: whosoever doeth not righteousness is not of God, neither he that loveth not his brother. 14 We know that we have passed from death unto life, because we love the brethren. He that loveth not his brother abideth in death.

Manifest: apparent and known publicly, externally, abroad, outwardly and openly. Doing righteousness apparently, publicly, abroad, outwardly and openly and loving Christian brethren in those same ways are two things children of God do that children of the devil do not.

1 John 4:8: He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.

1 John 3:17, 20: But whoso hath this world*s good, and seeth his brother have need, and shutteth up his bowels of compassion from him, how dwelleth the love of God in him? 20 If a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar: for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen?

2 Corinthians 13:5a: Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. . . .
