Pure Hearts And Clean Hands
James 4:8: Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded.
Pure hearts are the work of God and clean hands should be the work of men with pure hearts. Without pure hearts we can never have clean hands.
Acts 15:8-9: And God, which knoweth the hearts, bare them (Gentiles) witness, giving them the Holy Ghost, even as he did unto us; (Jews) 9 And put no difference between us and them, purifying their hearts by faith.
The way to have a purified heart is to have Jesus dwelling in it.
Ephesians 3:16-19: That he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man; 17 That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love, 18 May be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height; 19 And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God.
2 Corinthians 4:16: For which cause we faint not; but though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day.
The heart that has been purified and strengthened by God, is filled with all the fullness of God and is renewed day by day is the part of us that cannot sin.
1 John 3:9: Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God.
Our flesh is the part of us that can never do anything but sin.
Romans 7:18: For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no good thing: for to will is present with me; but how to perform that which is good I find not.
There is a battle that takes place in the life of a Christian between his pure heart and his sinful flesh. That battle can be evidence that you have received Jesus and have a pure heart. Some believe that battle is evidence that they are lost. If there is not a struggle within you between right and wrong, it may be that both your heart and your flesh are sinful. I cannot look upon your heart. It may be that you are quenching the Holy Spirit and that you are not keeping your body (your flesh) under and bringing it into subjection.
1 Thessalonians 5:19: Quench not the Spirit.
1 Corinthians 9:27: But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway.
Galatians 5:16: This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.
Isaiah 32:17: And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.
Some unbelievers have assurance that they are bound for Heaven but it is false assurance. Believers who don*t do the work of God (serve Him) often have no assurance that they are bound for Heaven. Some unbelievers know something that is not true. And some disobedient believers do not believe enough in what is true. They have pure hearts but dirty hands.
