Rejecting The Word Of God

God expects us to study, believe, obey and preach His Word, the Bible. He considers it a serious offense with horrible results to reject it.

Carl McIntire:

We cannot throw away the Bible without displeasing God and actually disposing of Him.

We don*t know how much of His Word God spoke to Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden, but we do know the part of God*s Word that they disobeyed.

Genesis 2:16-17: And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat: But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.

Satan deceived Eve by questioning the Word of God, trying to put a wrong meaning on it. He lied about what God had said. Eve believed Satan instead of the Word of God. Every sin of every man or woman since then happens when we believe one of Satan*s lies instead of God*s truth.

Genesis 3:4-5: And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die: For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.

Even in the present time, men try to twist what God says in the Bible. We look for reasons not to believe it and act on it. One passage says that wrestling with the Bible, trying to make it mean what we want it to mean leads to destruction.

II Peter 3:15-16: And account that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation; even as our beloved brother Paul also according to the wisdom given unto him hath written unto you; As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction.

When we pick and choose what we accept and what we reject in the Bible, we are attempting to write our own Bible and we are rejecting God*s Bible. He gives many stern warnings against rejecting the Bible:

Proverbs 28:9: He that turneth away his ear from hearing the law, even his prayer shall be abomination.

Deuteronomy 11:26-28: Behold I set before you this day a blessing and a curse; A blessing, if ye obey the commandments of the Lord your God, which I command you this day: And a curse, if ye will not obey the commandments of the Lord your God, but turn aside out of the way which I command you this day, to go after other gods, which ye have not known.

Amos 8:11-12: Behold, the days come, saith the Lord God, that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the Lord: And they shall wander from sea to sea, and from the north even to the east, they shall run to and fro to seek the word of the Lord, and shall not find it.

Luke 9:26: For whosoever shall be ashamed of me (Jesus) and of my words, of him shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he shall come in his own glory, and in his Father*s, and of the holy angels.

Revelation 22:18-19: For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book: And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.

Matthew 22:29: Jesus answered and said unto them, Ye do err, not knowing the scriptures, nor the power of God.

He who despises the writings of God despises the God who wrote them.

Joanie Yoder:

Don*t neglect your Bible. If you do, you will neglect your own spiritual health.

Two hundred and fifty years ago Voltaire said:

Fifty years from now the world will hear no more of the Bible. Today in the house of Voltaire in Paris, where he uttered these words, the Geneva Bible Society is doing a thriving business, while Voltaire is a name unwept, unhonoured, and unsung.
