Salvation Requires Many Miracles
Jonah 2:9b: . . . Salvation is of the LORD.
The moment we receive Christ we do one very simple and very human thing. God Himself works numberless miracles in every individual*s salvation. God does miracles for us before our salvation, during our salvation and after our salvation. Chronologically the first miracle in each individual*s salvation is that God decided in ages past to save that individual.
Ephesians 1:4: According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love:
There are miracles in his lifetime and in his person that bring each individual to salvation. There will be miracles between the moment of his salvation and the end of his life on earth. There will be incredible miracles at the end of his life that will make him perfect and take him to heaven. Since we only existed in the mind of God before the foundation of the world we had no part in choosing to be saved. There are many miracles that God did in preparing to save us before we were ever born. He continued working miracles in our lives after we were born that brought us to salvation. We had nothing to do with any of those miracles except that we benefit from them. The culmination of those miracles was when he changed us from individuals who did not seek Him to individuals who did seek Him. God works that miracle in a moment but it might have taken years or even decades for Him to prepare a man for that change.
Romans 3:11: There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God.
Jeremiah 29:13: And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart.
The miracle of changing a non-seeker of God into a seeker of God can only be wrought by God Himself. No man can work the miracles of salvation on behalf of himself or of other men.
Jeremiah 13:23 : an the Ethiopian change his skin, or the leopard his spots? then may ye also do good, that are accustomed to do evil.
Jesus provides the power to make us sons of God.
John 1:12: But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:
God provides regenerating power.
Titus 3:5: Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;
Jesus enters the hearts of lost men and purifies their hearts when He saves them.
Ephesians 3:17: That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love,
James 4:8: Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded.
God causes the new birth.
1 John 5:4: For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.
The Holy Spirit seals the children of God.
Ephesians 4:30: And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption.
God chooses the time when any soul shall be born into His Kingdom.
Ecclesiastes 3:1-2a: To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven: 2 A time to be born, and a time to die . . .
Jesus makes men into new creatures.
2 Corinthians 5:17: Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.
God makes individuals more than natural men.
1 Corinthians 2:14: But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.
Jesus washes away sin with His own blood.
Revelation 1:5: And from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, and the first begotten of the dead, and the prince of the kings of the earth. Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood,
God cleanses His children of all unrighteousness.
1 John 1:9: If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
God removes our sins from us as far as the east from the west.
Psalms 103:12: As far as the east is from the west, so far hath he removed our transgressions from us.
God delivers us from the power of Satan and puts us into the Kingdom of God and His Son.
Colossians 1:13: Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son:
A simple definition of an idol: A substitute for God. As we discover all the miraculous things that God does in our salvation we should understand that it is impossible for anyone or anything else to do those things. It should forever prevent us from trusting in idols.
Before I was saved I was part of a church where the leaders made a pronouncement of forgiveness like this: In the stead and at the command of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ I forgive you all your sins. At the time I was unsaved, unforgiven and headed directly for Hell. Since I have been saved The Holy Spirit Himself tells me that I am a child of God.
Romans 8:16: The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:
The men making that pronouncement were attempting to substitute for God. They were my idols and it has become obvious that their pronouncements of forgiveness were false and meaningless.
