Scriptures For Men Of God
I have some relatives that are serving the Lord. My nephew, Todd Opdahl, has shared some of his thoughts and some Scriptures to live by with me that I believe will be a blessing to you. He and his wife are helping to plant a church. They have adopted a couple of children and have been foster parents to a number of others. He certainly passes my Litmus Test For Men.
Over the last few years the Lord has really been hammering home some things in me related to mind (thoughts), compassion (help) for others, and fulfilling Christ*s great commission.
Matthew 28:19: Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: 20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.
If you don*t mind I would like to share some scriptures and thoughts that seem to be related to your Litmus test and also related to what I just mentioned that the Father and Holy Spirit have been working in me. As men of Christ we are supposed to do many things (John 14:12: Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.), not the least of which is think about God and his Word! Below are some scriptures regarding thinking about the Father and his Word.
Colossians 3:2: Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.
Philippians 4:8: Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.8 Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.
Malachi 3:16: Then they that feared the LORD spake often one to another: and the LORD hearkened, and heard it, and a book of remembrance was written before him for them that feared the LORD, and that thought upon his name.
After spending some time in thought about the Father and his Word we should also uplift, help, and support ourselves and each other.
Romans 14:19: Let us therefore follow after the things which make for peace, and things wherewith one may edify another.
Jude 1:20: But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost,
Ephesians 4:29-30: Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers. 30 And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption.
Hebrews 10:23-25: Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; (for he is faithful that promised;) 24 And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works: 25 Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.
Ephesians 4:12: For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ:
Ephesians 4:15-16: But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ: 16 From whom the whole body fitly joined together and compacted by that which every joint supplieth, according to the effectual working in the measure of every part, maketh increase of the body unto the edifying of itself in love.
1 Thessalonians 5:11: Wherefore comfort yourselves together, and edify one another, even as also ye do.
Colossians 3:16: Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.
Then along with all of this we need to be prepared to give an accounting for ourselves, and also talk about the things of God with others (both believers and non believers) toward the goal of fulfilling Jesus*s commission!
2 Timothy 4:2: Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all long suffering and doctrine.
2 Timothy 3:16-17: All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: 17 That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.
1 Peter 3:15: But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear:
