Seek Ye First The Kingdom Of God
We should seek the Kingdom of God first chronologically, but we should also seek it as first in importance.
Matthew 6:33: But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.
Seeking the kingdom of God is not something we do naturally but it is what God wants us to do. Seeking the kingdom seems like an impossibility but it is not. He wants to give us His Kingdom, He wants us to see His Kingdom, He wants us to enter it, He wants to put it within us and He wants us to live like we are citizens of it. We must be born into it.
Luke 12:32: Fear not, little flock; for it is your Father*s good pleasure to give you the kingdom.
Luke 17:21: Neither shall they say, Lo here! or, lo there! for, behold, the kingdom of God is within you.
John 3:3-5: Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. 4 Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother*s womb, and be born? 5 Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.
When the Kingdom of God has been given to us, when we enter it and when it is placed within us we are given a King that we did not have outside of the Kingdom. Jesus is King of Kings and Lord of Lords. He wants to be your personal King and your personal Lord. It is His good pleasure to become those things to you. We cannot have the Kingdom without the King.
Revelation 19:16: And he hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS.
I don*t know of any other passage that long in the Bible that is ALL CAPITALIZED. That makes it rather important, don*t you think? So how do we seek the Kingdom of God? We must seek the King, Jesus. We must receive Him. If we truly seek Him we will receive Him.
There is a second thing which we must seek first, God*s righteousness. We should seek His righteousness as first in importance too. His Kingdom is inseparable from His righteousness. Seeking His righteousness means we will try to do what is right and we will try to cease from sinning. It means we will obey the King. We seek what is desirable to us. I hope and pray that Jesus will make Himself, His Kingdom, His righteousness, obeying Him and avoiding sin increasingly desirable to you. Those are the best things in life and they will be the best things forever.
All the things that shall be added unto you shall be the necessary, the real and the blessed things. The things that shall not be added unto to you are vanity, empty things, things that are not worth having, things like bubbles that will burst and become nothing. If you want to know some of the specifics of all these things read Matthew 6:25 to 32. To our flesh the things that seem solid, real and lasting are physical things. But God knows that the things that are truly solid, real and eternal are spiritual things. To our flesh God does not seem to be real but our hearts know that He is the greatest reality.
Philippians 4:19: But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.
Matthew 6:8b: . . . your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him.
Without His wisdom, we don*t even know what we need. He knows. We need His Kingdom and His righteousness.
