Seek Ye First

Matthew 6:33: But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

Seek ye first in chronological order. Seek ye first in the order of your priorities. Seek ye first in who and what you will love. Seek ye first in your decisions. If you make 50 decisions in the course of your day, seek ye first 50 times. Even though we fail in this many times each day, it should be our goal. Seek ye first the kingdom of God. Without the King, the Kingdom of God would not exist. Seek ye first the King of the Kingdom. Jennie Hussey got it right in her song: King of my life, I crown Thee now, Thine shall the glory be. Seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness. AND HIS RIGHTEOUSNESS because we have none of our own. Painful as it is, we must learn over and over that we have no righteousness of our own. When the gift of His righteousness comes into our lives we too often become convinced that we are righteous in and of ourselves.

Isaiah 64:6: But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away.

Romans 14:17: For the kingdom of God is not meat and drink; but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost.

The kingdom of God is righteousness. When we seek the kingdom, we also seek righteousness. We get His righteousness, the righteousness of the Kingdom in the same way that Abraham did, by faith.

Romans 4:3-5: For what saith the scripture? Abraham believed God, and it was counted unto him for righteousness. 4 Now to him that worketh is the reward not reckoned of grace, but of debt. 5 But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness.

Both Israelites and Gentiles have believed that they could get to Heaven because of their own righteousness. Human righteousness does not get the job done. We need the righteousness of God to get to Heaven. It is a gift, just as salvation is a gift.

Romans 5:17: For if by one man*s offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ.)

Romans 10:1-3: Brethren, my heart*s desire and prayer to God for Israel is, that they might be saved. 2 For I bear them record that they have a zeal of God, but not according to knowledge. 3 For they being ignorant of God*s righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God.

1 Corinthians 1:30: But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption:

When we have faith to receive Jesus, His righteousness is imputed to us. When God imputes His righteousness to us, it guarantees that we will get to Heaven. When we seek His righteousness, it will impact our lives too. When you wonder what to do next seek ye first the kingdom of God, and His righteousness.

If there is a New Year*s resolution that I would recommend, this is it.
