Sorry For Sin
Psalms 38:18: For I will declare mine iniquity; I will be sorry for my sin.
An important mark of a believer is that he is sorry for sin and that he will be sorry for it for the rest of his life on earth. If he is not sorry for it he will go on sinning and will not repent of it. If we are not sorry for our sin we will continue in it. If we can sin and not be sorry for it, we are either not saved or we are carnal Christians and we are not right with God. If a believer is not sorry for his sin he will not be thankful for forgiveness. Being sorry for sin changes believers* lives for the better.
Job 5:17: Behold, happy is the man whom God correcteth: therefore despise not thou the chastening of the Almighty:
Proverbs 28:13: He that covereth his sins shall not prosper: but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy. 14 Happy is the man that feareth alway: but he that hardeneth his heart shall fall into mischief.
2 Corinthians 7:9: Now I rejoice, not that ye were made sorry, but that ye sorrowed to repentance: for ye were made sorry after a godly manner, that ye might receive damage by us in nothing. 10 For godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world worketh death.
Unbelievers are not sorry for sin. They are sorry they got caught. They are sorry when others know about their sin. They have hard hearts. Believers are sorry when they know about their own sin because they know it offends their loving Heavenly Father.
Some questions: Are you sorry for your sin? Why are you sorry for it? Have you repented of it and stopped it? Have you intended to stop it and tried to stop it? Have you asked God*s help to stop it?
If we are not sorry for our sin we will never be joyful for forgiveness.
Psalms 51:1: To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David, when Nathan the prophet came unto him, after he had gone in to Bathsheba. Have mercy upon me, O God, according to thy lovingkindness: according unto the multitude of thy tender mercies blot out my transgressions. 2 Wash me throughly from mine iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin. 3 For I acknowledge my transgressions: and my sin is ever before me. 4 Against thee, thee only, have I sinned, and done this evil in thy sight: that thou mightest be justified when thou speakest, and be clear when thou judgest. 2 Wash me throughly from mine iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin. 3 For I acknowledge my transgressions: and my sin is ever before me. 4 Against thee, thee only, have I sinned, and done this evil in thy sight: that thou mightest be justified when thou speakest, and be clear when thou judgest. . . . 12 Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation; and uphold me with thy free spirit.
