The Source Of Hatred

Satan is the primary source of hatred. He envied God and that envy produced hatred. Satan*s envy and hatred have become part of the nature of men. It was evident in Cain*s murder of Abel and has been evident throughout the ages.

Isaiah 14:14: I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High.

Genesis 27:41: And Esau hated Jacob because of the blessing wherewith his father blessed him: and Esau said in his heart, The days of mourning for my father are at hand; then will I slay my brother Jacob.

Esau hated Jacob because their father gave Jacob something that he did not give Esau. God considers hatred to be just as evil as murder. Hatred is in the same category as murder. Murder doesn*t happen apart from hatred.

1 John 3:15: Whosoever hateth his brother is a murderer: and ye know that no murderer hath eternal life abiding in him.

Our natural tendency is to hate people who have something that we want and don*t have. It happens when we can*t have that thing. It happens because they won*t give that thing to us. It happens when they have taken something away from us. It happens when we don*t want them to have that thing. Sometimes we are not even content to have the same thing the other fellow has. We want something better. We want him to have less than us. We want superiority.

The thing the other fellow has can be as petty as a parking place. It can be a space on the road in front of us. Do we think or say bad things about the slowpoke ahead of us? It can be as petty as the loss of a few seconds. It can be happiness that the other fellow has that we do not. It can be a great blessing from the Lord that the other fellow has that we do not have. It can even be something the Lord has that we do not. Hatred for God Himself is caused by something we want that the Lord won*t give us. God has everything. We want everything. God is superior. We want to be superior. God has control of everything. We want control of everything.

When we finally learn to love God we learn that what He gives us is good for us. We learn that what he withholds is good for us. We learn that His having everything is good for us. We learn that His being superior is good for us. We learn that His being in control is good for us. We learn that His being in control is right. We should then want what is right.

1 Corinthians 13:4-7: Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up, Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil; Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth; Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things.

Hatred is being unwilling to be inconvenienced by the other fellow. Love wants to benefit the other fellow and is willing to be inconvenienced to do it. Indifference is hatred. Hatred is envious. Hatred wants to lift up self. Hatred is puffed up. Satan wanted what God had.

Isaiah 14:14: I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High.

We also want what God has. We want to rule and reign in our own lives. We don*t want Him ruling over us.

Luke 19:14: But his citizens hated him, and sent a message after him, saying, We will not have this man to reign over us.

The citizens* hatred for the nobleman is exactly the hatred we had for God before we were saved. When we love God we want Him reigning over us. When we do not we demonstrate hatred of Him and His reigning. Genuine love for God wants Him to BE God.

Many people who pray Thy will be done in earth as it is in heaven are liars and God-haters.
