1 Peter 2:2: As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby:
The word sincere in the passage means undeceitful and unadulterated. Many Americans have very unhealthy diets, physically and spiritually. Just as unhealthy diets make us unhealthy physically, unhealthy spiritual diets make Christians unhealthy spiritually. Many Christians attend churches with worldly preachers and teachers or they do not attend church at all. Many don*t even study the Bible for themselves. It is no wonder that so many seem to have spiritual anorexia. It is no wonder that so many do not grow spiritually. Clearly, Christians need to study the Bible for themselves AND they need the best Bible preachers and teachers they can find.
Many Christians seem to prefer to stay distant from their preachers and teachers. They need to get as close as possible to them so they might see whether their lives are being continually changed by the Bible or not. Getting close to a pastor can be very difficult in a mega-church. Spiritual leaders who are not growing spiritually are obviously not ingesting the sincere milk of the Word or enough of it. If they are not growing themselves, they will not be able to help others grow. Christians who do not attend church regularly and study the Bible regularly for themselves will not be able to discern whether spiritual leaders are digesting the sincere milk of the Word and growing.
Matthew 4:4: But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.
Think for a moment about that phrase every word. If we are just nibbling a few of God*s words each day we won*t be getting every word of God. Ingesting and digesting every word of God will require hours, not just moments. This truth hit me personally and squarely between the eyes too.
Proverbs 3:6-8: In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. 7 Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the LORD, and depart from evil. 8 It shall be health to thy navel, and marrow to thy bones.
