Spiritual Starvation

The USDA determined in the early 1960s that the average American consumed almost 1,500 pounds of food per year. Obesity is far more prevalent in America than in other countries around the world. Spiritually we have the opposite problem. Every nation in the world is undernourished spiritually.

The Bible is spiritual food.

1 Peter 2:2: As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby:

Many nations around the world are spiritually starving because the Bible is outlawed. Many Americans are spiritually anemic because they as individuals neglect the Bible. As a nation America is becoming spiritually anemic because the Bible and prayer are being banned more and more from schools, workplaces and countless other circumstances.

Romans 10:17: So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

Because the Bible is neglected people don*t come to faith in God.

Isaiah 55:11: So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.

Without the Bible God*s will is not accomplished. The Apostle Paul understood those things and had a most important prayer request for his readers. He asked them to pray that the Word of God would have free course so that people would come to faith in God and become spiritually healthy and that God*s will would be done.

2 Thessalonians 3:1: Finally, brethren, pray for us, that the word of the Lord may have free course, and be glorified, even as it is with you:

When we don*t know what to pray for, this is it: . . . That the word of the Lord may have free course, and be glorified . . .

And . . . Matthew 6:10: Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.

What makes the difference between believers and unbelievers is what they do with the Bible. Believers and the Bible:

Psalms 1:1-3: Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night. And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.

Unbelievers and the bible:

Psalms 1:4-6: The ungodly are not so: but are like the chaff which the wind driveth away. Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous. For the LORD knoweth the way of the righteous: but the way of the ungodly shall perish.

Must the Bible be force-fed to you? Or are you seeking your 1,500 pounds of it this year?
