Spiritually Unhealthy Believers

Ephesians 5:23: For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body.

Colossians 1:13: Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son: 14 In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins: 15 Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature: 16 For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him: 17 And he is before all things, and by him all things consist. 18 And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence.

Many believers seem to prefer to live in disobedience to their head, who is Jesus. They remind me of stroke victims who lose the use of their right or their left side or worse. Parts of their bodies are no longer under the control of their brains. Believers living in disobedience to their head (Jesus) are spiritually unhealthy and far worse off than stroke victims. Believers who neglect studying the Bible and avoid the local church also avoid the Head of the local church. Jesus is the Head of the universal church but He is also the head of the local church.

John 15:5: I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.

Philippians 4:13: I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.

Hebrews 10:25: Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.

1 Peter 2:2: As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby:

Sin leads to more sin and disobeying Hebrews 10:25 is often the first step toward a slippery slope. Depriving oneself of the Bible and skipping church often happen at the same time, rather like skipping down a staircase two at a time.

Acts 2:42: And they continued stedfastly in the apostles* doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers.

Are we steadfastly attending a local fellowship? Or are we spiritually unhealthy?
