The Silent Treatment
This article shall also appear under the title Two Evidences Of Hatred.
Two evidences of hatred are when individuals lie to others and/or they cannot speak peaceably to them.
Proverbs 26:28a: A lying tongue hateth those that are afflicted by it; . . .
Genesis 37:4: And when his (Joseph*s) brethren saw that their father loved him more than all his brethren, they hated him, and could not speak peaceably unto him.
Do you know of individuals who lie to others and/or cannot speak peaceably to them. Are there individuals that lie to you and cannot speak peaceably to you? Or worse still, are there individuals that YOU lie to and cannot speak peaceably to? Those are two very accurate evidences of hatred. One method of not speaking peaceably to someone is not speaking to them at all, the silent treatment. The Bible teaches that haters and murderers are cut from the same cloth.
1 John 3:15: Whosoever hateth his brother is a murderer: and ye know that no murderer hath eternal life abiding in him.
Evidence of hatred is all over our society. Fans of one sports team cannot speak peaceably to the fans of another sports team. Politicians lie to one another and to the public and feel no guilt. Neighbors become estranged in those same ways. Brothers do not speak to brothers for unending years. Husbands and wives give each other the silent treatment. Men often gift God Himself the silent treatment. When we are aware of these things, we need to ask the Lord to do a great work on the offenders. If we are guilty of these things ourselves, we need to ask the Lord*s forgiveness and His help to forsake our sin. Is there anyone that you cannot speak peaceably to? Is there anyone that you lie to?
Matthew 5:9: Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.
Romans 12:18: If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men.
Hebrews 12:14: Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord:
John 8:32b: . . . the truth shall make you free.
Galatians 5:22a: But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, . . .
