Turn Unto The Lord Every Day
Lord, please reprove me of every sin I commit. Remind me to confess sin and forsake it. And then help me to forsake it. Give me a tender conscience toward it. Help me to love YOU more than my sin.
If you are anything like me, and you most certainly are, you will need to pray a prayer like that a multitude of times each day.
Acts 3:19: Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord;
The passage above describes the repentance of an unbeliever. The next passages describe the repentance of believers. There are some special things involved in the repentance of believers as well as a special result. First they ask for the Lord*s forgiveness. Then He cleans them up and gives them joy and gladness. He replaces the brokenness caused by sin with joy. He reveals Himself to them. He continually forgives. He cleans up their hearts and spirits. He keeps them in His presence. The Holy Spirit continues to bless them. He restores their joy and upholds them. Then they become useful witnesses for Him.
Psalms 51:7-13: Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean: wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow. 8 Make me to hear joy and gladness; that the bones which thou hast broken may rejoice. 9 Hide thy face from my sins, and blot out all mine iniquities. 10 Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me. 11 Cast me not away from thy presence; and take not thy holy spirit from me. 12 Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation; and uphold me with thy free spirit. 13 Then will I teach transgressors thy ways; and sinners shall be converted unto thee.
Just like the life of King David, the Christian life should be a repetitious turning unto the Lord. Every time we sin we need to turn back to Him. Every sin is turning away from Him. Sadly, many Israelites turned away from the Lord and stayed away. Even more sadly, many Christians turn away from Him daily and for long periods of time.
Zechariah 1:3-4: Therefore say thou unto them, Thus saith the LORD of hosts; Turn ye unto me, saith the LORD of hosts, and I will turn unto you, saith the LORD of hosts. 4 Be ye not as your fathers, unto whom the former prophets have cried, saying, Thus saith the LORD of hosts; Turn ye now from your evil ways, and from your evil doings: but they did not hear, nor hearken unto me, saith the LORD.
1 John 1:8: If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.
