John 14:15: If ye love me, keep my commandments. 23b . . . If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.
Unproven love bears a strong resemblance to non-existent love. They often cannot be told apart. Neither kind benefits others. I am not the judge of your love. God is. And all of us ought to examine our love for Him and prove it.
2 Corinthians 13:5: Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates?
1 John 4:19: We love him, because he first loved us.
God is the cause of love. It is impossible for unbelievers to love Him because they have not yet received Jesus and experienced His love. Some believers seem able to love Him all the time and others seem only able to love Him some of the time. I recall hearing a rebellious individual saying they should not have to prove their love. The love of God is willing to prove itself.
Romans 5:5: And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.
Galatians 5:22a: But the fruit of the Spirit is love, . . .
When we are unwilling to prove our love we fulfil the lust of the flesh.
Galatians 5:16: This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.
Proverbs 17:17: A friend loveth at all times, and a brother is born for adversity.
