Unreasonable And Wicked Men
2 Thessalonians 3:1-3: Finally, brethren, pray for us, that the word of the Lord may have free course, and be glorified, even as it is with you: And that we may be delivered from unreasonable and wicked men: for all men have not faith. But the Lord is faithful, who shall stablish you, and keep you from evil.
I was an unreasonable and wicked man before I was saved. I thought that believers were the unreasonable ones. I thought they were strange. Now some unbelievers think I am unreasonable. I love being on this side of the fence. Only people who have been on both sides have a chance to understand those on the other side. I often wish I could make unreasonable people reasonable. Only the Word of God and the Holy Spirit can do that. I now understand a little of how unreasonable I was. As I look back I remember many believers that tried to help me. I have now experienced the same heartache they did as I stubbornly resisted them.
1 Peter 4:3-4: For the time past of our life may suffice us to have wrought the will of the Gentiles, when we walked in lasciviousness, lusts, excess of wine, revellings, banquetings, and abominable idolatries: Wherein they think it strange that ye run not with them to the same excess of riot, speaking evil of you:
The first unreasonable things that men do is reject the Word of the Lord and attack its proponents. They do not glorify the Bible. They attach no importance to it. They oppose it. They mock it. They suppress it. They belittle it. They exclude it from their lives. They will not hear it. They will not speak it. They will not live by it. They twist it. They deny it. They wrestle with it. They ban it. They keep it from others. They create substitutes for it. They add to it. They subtract from it. They water it down. They attack it. They also attack those who represent it, preach it, teach it, quote it and live it. That is why deliverance from them is necessary.
I did many of those things before I received Christ. The first unreasonable and wicked man that God delivered me from was myself. The first unreasonable and wicked man that everyone needs to be delivered from is himself.
When the reasonable God deals with unreasonable men the first thing He deals with is their sin. He wants to forgive it and make them reasonable. Sin (disobeying God) is unreasonable. Obedience (righteousness) is reasonable.
Isaiah 1:18: Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.
Another thing He deals with is the fact that giving their lives to Him is reasonable and is an underserved opportunity given to us by His mercies.
Romans 12:1: I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.
