The Value Of The Bible

Do we value the Bible as much as it deserves to be valued? It is the most useful and versatile book and the best how to book in the world. No mortal man can overestimate the value of the Bible. None of us can do more than to scratch the surface of the value of the Bible. And yet if a few Christians got together they could write a book longer than the Bible about the greatness of its value.

Psalms 138:2: I will worship toward thy holy temple, and praise thy name for thy lovingkindness and for thy truth: for thou hast magnified thy word above all thy name.

God Himself gives high praise to His Word and we should all make the best use of it we can.

British Family Bible on Psalms 138:2:

God had done honour to his word beyond all that had ever been said or imagined of Him.

Mudge*s paraphrase:

For thou hast magnified thy name and thy word above all things.

(His word) has exceeded all other manifestations of Himself . . .

Treasury of David:

The word of promise made to David was in his eyes more glorious than all else that he had seen of the Most High.

Annotated Bible Notes:

So great are God*s promises, and so faithful and complete is His performance of them, as even to surpass the expectations which the greatness of His name has excited.

Thomas Scott:

The accomplishment of the promises which God had made to David, notwithstanding all opposition and difficulties, peculiarly honoured his word of grace and truth. In like manner, that display of his glory which is made by his holy word, and the salvation there revealed, exceeds, and as it were eclipses, the glory of all his other works.

The Bible is to study, to make us approved unto God, to make us workers for God and to keep us from being ashamed.

2 Timothy 2:15: Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

The Bible is to become a part of us.

James 1:21: Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls.

Jeremiah 31:33: But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the LORD, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people.

The Bible is to give us faith.

Romans 10:17: So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

The Bible is to accomplish God*s will.

Isaiah 55:11: So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.

The Bible is to keep us from sin.

Psalms 119:11: Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.

The Bible is to meditate on.

Psalms 119:148: Mine eyes prevent the night watches, that I might meditate in thy word.

The Bible is to be taught.

Deuteronomy 6:6: And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart: 7 And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.

It has been said that some wear their hearts on their sleeves. The Bible should be worn on our sleeves. It should decorate our bodies, our homes and our lives.

Deuteronomy 6:8: And thou shalt bind them for a sign upon thine hand, and they shall be as frontlets between thine eyes. 9 And thou shalt write them upon the posts of thy house, and on thy gates.

I once had a pinky ring with one word on it. The word was Jesus. The ring was not very expensive and I broke it. Before I had a computer I was not able to find another like it. Just yesterday I found some online and intend to order one soon.

One of the most wonderful gifts that my daughter has ever given me is a door mat that says as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD. It has been in front of my front door to this day.

Joshua 24:15: And if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.

The Bible is to be our guide.

Psalms 119:105: Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.
