The Voice Of God
The voice of God has power that we cannot imagine.
Genesis 1:3: And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.
Genesis 1:6-7: And God said, Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters. And God made the firmament, and divided the waters which were under the firmament from the waters which were above the firmament: and it was so.
Genesis 1:9: And God said, Let the waters under the heaven be gathered together unto one place, and let the dry land appear: and it was so.
Genesis 1:14-15: And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years: And let them be for lights in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth: and it was so.
Genesis 1:20: And God said, Let the waters bring forth abundantly the moving creature that hath life, and fowl that may fly above the earth in the open firmament of heaven.
Genesis 1:24: And God said, Let the earth bring forth the living creature after his kind, cattle, and creeping thing, and beast of the earth after his kind: and it was so.
Genesis 1:26: And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.
We exist, the earth exists, and the entire universe exists because God spoke it into existence. What power!! God not only has creative power he has destructive power.
2 Thessalonians 2:8: And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming:
Job 4:9: By the blast of God they perish, and by the breath of his nostrils are they consumed.
Isaiah 11:4: But with righteousness shall he judge the poor, and reprove with equity for the meek of the earth: and he shall smite the earth with the rod of his mouth, and with the breath of his lips shall he slay the wicked.
Hosea 6:5: Therefore have I hewed them by the prophets; I have slain them by the words of my mouth: and thy judgments are as the light that goeth forth.
Revelation 2:16: Repent; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will fight against them with the sword of my mouth.
Revelation 19:15: And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron: and he treadeth the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God.
Revelation 19:21: And the remnant were slain with the sword of him that sat upon the horse, which sword proceeded out of his mouth: and all the fowls were filled with their flesh.
God is a Spirit. He does not have a mouth or tongue or lips in the way that we have. When the Bible speaks about those things the Bible is using anthropomorphisms. It means that God describes Himself in terms that we lowly humans can understand. We understand mouths and tongues. So he speaks to us of mouths and tongues.
God speaks to us today. He does that in many ways. He speaks through His Word the Bible. There are many times when God spoke directly to men and it was recorded in the Bible. The Bible not only records the words of God but it is the Word of God. Because it is the Word of God the Bible has the power of God.
Hebrews 4:12: For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
2 Peter 1:19: We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts: Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation. For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.
Isaiah 55:11: So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.
God also speaks through His creation.
Romans 1:20: For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:
He speaks through our conscience.
Romans 1:19: Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them.
He speaks through a still small voice.
1 Kings 19:11-12: And he said, Go forth, and stand upon the mount before the LORD. And, behold, the LORD passed by, and a great and strong wind rent the mountains, and brake in pieces the rocks before the LORD; but the LORD was not in the wind: and after the wind an earthquake; but the LORD was not in the earthquake: And after the earthquake a fire; but the LORD was not in the fire: and after the fire a still small voice.
He speaks through the Holy Spirit.
Romans 8:16: The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:
He speaks from heaven.
Hebrews 12:25: See that ye refuse not him that speaketh. For if they escaped not who refused him that spake on earth, much more shall not we escape, if we turn away from him that speaketh from heaven:
He speaks through the preaching of Spirit-filled men.
1 Corinthians 1:21: For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe.
2 Corinthians 5:20: Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ*s stead, be ye reconciled to God.
The most dependable and accurate method God uses to speak to us is the Bible. We can so easily misunderstand God if we depend on hearing directly from Him via the other ways. God will never speak anything unbiblical via the other ways. If we think we hear from God but what we hear disagrees with the Bible, it is not God we are listening to. Our imagination can run wild and we can deceive ourselves into believing God is speaking when it is only our imagination.
When God speaks to man it is a speech that goes beyond our ears, beyond our brain and even beyond our heart. It is a speech that speaks to our whole being.
The end of the age that we live in will be announced by the voice of God. It will not be a still small voice. It will not be in His regular tone of voice. It will be more significant than God*s voice has ever been. It will be a shout. His voice has never been said to be a shout on any other occasion. He is going to call all of His people, dead or alive, home to heaven with a shout and with a trumpet.
1 Thessalonians 4:16-17: For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.
If we don*t first listen to Him here on earth we will not hear that shout.
Revelation 3:20: Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.
Have you heard His voice and obeyed it? Do you hear it from day to day? Have you heard His voice telling you that you are His?
Psalms 95:7: For he is our God; and we are the people of his pasture, and the sheep of his hand. To day if ye will hear his voice, Harden not your heart, as in the provocation, and as in the day of temptation in the wilderness:
John 10:27: My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:
Are you listening for the shout?
