We Have Wicked Hearts

Jeremiah 17:9: The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?

How can we love God with a wicked heart? The answer is that we cannot. But it is commanded.

Luke 10:27: And he answering said, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbour as thyself.

The ONLY way we can love the Lord with all of our hearts is for Him to purify them. Salvation is the work of God on the heart of an individual. And Christian lives are the continuing work of God on the hearts AND LIVES of saved individuals.

Acts 15:7b-9: . . . Peter rose up, and said unto them, Men and brethren, ye know how that a good while ago God made choice among us, that the Gentiles by my mouth should hear the word of the gospel, and believe. 8 And God, which knoweth the hearts, bare them witness, giving them the Holy Ghost, even as he did unto us; 9 And put no difference between us and them, purifying their hearts by faith.

Matthew 5:8: Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.

1 Timothy 1:5: Now the end of the commandment is charity out of a pure heart, and of a good conscience, and of faith unfeigned:

2 Timothy 2:22: Flee also youthful lusts: but follow righteousness, faith, charity, peace, with them that call on the Lord out of a pure heart.

1 Peter 1:22: Seeing ye have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit unto unfeigned love of the brethren, see that ye love one another with a pure heart fervently:

Deuteronomy 30:6: And the LORD thy God will circumcise thine heart, and the heart of thy seed, to love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, that thou mayest live.

It is the work of God to give us the Holy Spirit and cause His fruit to flow into us and through us. Among other things, the work of God on our hearts is called the circumcision without hands.

Romans 5:5: And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.

Colossians 2:6-11: As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him: 7 Rooted and built up in him, and stablished in the faith, as ye have been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving. 8 Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ. 9 For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily. 10 And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power: 11 In whom also ye are circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, in putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ:

The circumcision without hands puts off the body of our sins that were in our wicked hearts and replaces it with love. The great wickedness of our uncircumcised hearts was their inability to love God.

John 6:37: All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out.

Romans 10:13: For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

Have you received Jesus and has He purified your heart? Is He also changing your soul, mind and life? Are you willing to come to Him, ask Him to come into your heart, take charge of it and do His continuing work there?

Philippians 1:6: Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ:

2 Corinthians 4:16b: . . .though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day.
